Get to know Tom Sannicandro

State Representative Tom Sannicandro represents the 7th Middlesex District, which consists of all of the Town of Ashland and six precincts in the Town of Framingham.

Sannicandro has served as Chair of the Committee of Higher Education since January 2011. Previously he served as Vice Chair of the Committee for Children, Families, and Persons with Disabilities, as well as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee. In Sept. 2011, Sannicandro wrote a column for the Ashland Directions called “A Complete Jobs Agenda” in which he laid out his philosophy on job creation. Sannicandro has often spoken about the link between higher education and economic strength.

Sannicandro was elected State Representative in 2004 as a write-in candidate. Prior to serving in the Legislature, Sannicandro was Chair of the Ashland School Committee and an active member of the Ashland community.

Sannicandro opened his law practice in Framingham and Ashland in 1983. His practice focuses on special education and legal issues that surround transition to adulthood for people with intellectual disabilities and their families.

Sannicandro grew up in Framingham and attended both Framingham South High School and Marian High School. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the College of the Holy Cross, received his Juris Doctor from Suffolk Law School, and has a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University.

Growing up he worked at his family’s market on Waverly Street, Metrowest Medical Center, Chaulk Ambulance, and Big Brother/Big Sister. He also has taught at Bentley College and Framingham State College and has worked in Real Estate as both a broker and an investor.

His focus in the Legislature is on building a sustainable economy, education, special education, the Department of Developmental Services, senior issues, health care, and environmental issues. His Number one priority is serving the residents of Ashland and Framingham.

Sannicandro lives in Ashland with his wife, Mary Anne. They have four kids — Dave, Laura, Zach and Jesse.
